I always thought of her as an author of books espousing a very particular approach to interior design &#8211; one that, as a hair-shirt modernist, I personally can&#8217;t stand. What I hadn&#8217;t realised was that she started out writing cookery books, including one that is much more in my line, <em>The Pauper&#8217;s Cookbook<\/em>. Currently available from publishers Frances Lincoln in a very stylish edition with a cover illustration by the artist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mary_Fedden\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Fedden<\/a>, whose style is very much imitated these days.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flourandwater.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Paupers-Cookbook.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-732 size-full\" title=\"The Pauper's Cookbook\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flourandwater.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Paupers-Cookbook.jpg\" alt=\"The Pauper's Cookbook\" width=\"333\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flourandwater.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Paupers-Cookbook.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.flourandwater.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Paupers-Cookbook-195x300.jpg 195w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/spitalfieldslife.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spitalfields Life<\/a> is one of the few blogs that keeps me coming back again and again; it&#8217;s a bit like rummaging in a well-stocked junkshop.
